I've just put together the 88.5 litre sealed cabinet from adires site, the sub is a shiva and the amp is a 350w jaycar plate amp @ 4 ohms. I was wondering if it would be possible to add a port to this box to get some more extension, and if so what should i tune at and what are the dimensions for that frequency, i will not be able to get a rumble filter in this setup, any help would be greatly appreciated
Hi Matt,
Adire tell you what to do in the one page tech sheet.

88.5litre is very close to 3cu.ft. Look at the lower right of the tech sheet.

thanks for the info.
I've been searching the diyaudio forum frantically and have been unable to find anything related to using pvc ports with screw caps, now this may be a stupid idea, but would it be possible to put say 3 ports in, all tuned to different frquencies, and you simply cap the two your'e not litening to, or evening closing them all for a sealed alignment giving you an ultra flexible box?

No Matt, It wouldn't be a stupid idea, just a little more work then necessary. What you can do is make 3 mounting flanges, all with the same mounting dimensions. Than mount a different tuned port in each mounting flange. Than all you do when you want a little different tuning is change flanges.
Unrelated but a BIG problem
I was listening to my shiva last night at relatively low levels when i heard two ditinct pops, sounding very loud, and hey presto the sub plays nothing but distortion now, thats just fantastic for a driver thats less than a month old, i'd been listening at much higher levels than what i was listening to last night without problem, is the cone stuffed or can it be saved?, what went wrong?
i wired the jaycar 350watt amp in parallel with the terminals to give a 4 ohm load.

Re: Unrelated but a BIG problem
It sounds like you fried the voicecoil. Can you hear a scrapping sound if you move the cone in and out by hand? Are you sure that the amp is still working correctly?
This doesn't give you a 4ohm load. It is indicating that this arrangement is set to drive a 4ohm load. The speaker provides the load to the amp.Matt Neilson said:i wired the jaycar 350watt amp in parallel with the terminals to give a 4 ohm load.

no i can't be sure whether or not it is the amp, if i run it through an old stereo amp i still get very distorted sound, is it possible that my jaycar amp has gone DC and rendered my entire $700 investment useless. You can still hear th beat, but it sounds like a horrible cheap speaker distorting because the volume is way ttoo loud, only the volume isn't loud, and the speaker isn't exactly cheap.
No i can't seem to hear a scraping sound when i move it by hand but it seems as though it may be a bit stiffer?
Matt,
I can only guess that the speaker will need repair. I don't know on the condition of the amp(s). You might want to try the amp(s) with some cheap car speakers you may have laying around to see if they are working correctly.
If the amp(s) are working correctly each bythemselves and in the arrangement you were using when the speakers went south, than you might want to look at this link to the Adire warranty.

sorry about the above comment there is in fact a scraping noise when the sub is pushed by hand, does this mean th voice coils are fried
Yes, the voicecoil is probably a goner. Your only recource is to see is Adire will consider it a warranty problem, although It would be a stretch since the voicecoil was fried. You have noting to lose by asking. Be sure to checkout your amps first to make sure they are working correctly.
