If you wanted to spend $100 for a power cable because it was covered in your favorite color of leather... and matched your sofa... that would be OK.
To say that it sounds better causes the controversy. If you can hear a difference... then you should be able to prove it.
I just bought an LCD TV... the salesman tried his best to sell me $80 HDMI cables... because they were "faster". I bought the $20 cables because they were black... and matched the TV stand.
So far... the slow cables are working fine... and trust me... I have played some really fast blu ray discs on those cables!

poobah,I don't really feel I need to prove anything to anyone.I just asked for opinions for something.And believe it or not,I hate the colour of my power cable.

that if you buy the €100 cable to replace you €10 cable
and you do not hear any improvement
it will make you think you have done a less good thing, with your money
And to admit you didn't do no good .. is the hardest thing.
Because you know you are a clever person. Not dumb.
Even more hard for you, if you have told one friend about your purchase.
Or even the whole local audiophile club 😉
And when they ask you have to tell the result.

The more you have paid and the more people you have told or will have to tell
... the more you actually will want to hear an improvment.
I have called this process for self justification some years ago in a topic.
We do not not want to put in a lot of work, rebuild an amplifier, speaker or whatever
and to no result.
And we do not want to spend our money, sometimes lots of money
and discover it was all in vain. Just no result
And the more problems you will have, if you hear no difference
The process of self justification
put a lot of pressure onto you mind to notice any slight improvement.
Just like like a hypnotizer can make your mind see things not real
you can use self suggestion easily.
If your drive, your motivation for it is strong enough,
you will ultimately hear what you want to hear.

And get posted messages, by reading what we want to read into messages.
If is one 'audio friend' posting, we will get the positives.
If is one forum member we do not like, we will focus on the bad.

I always buy something after I am convinced that it is good for the reason I'm buying it.Never before.I can understand your point very well,and I have done such a mistake a year or so ago.I bought some CAT5 for audio,because I trusted some friends recommendations,hoping to save some money.That was the last time I made the mistake to trust others taste.After all I'm the one who listens to my system,and I trust my self.
Simply because the technically minded friends cannot prove that differences exist,and deffend themselves by asking those who hear the differences,to prove it.I have asked for an opinion,and I was told I'm imagining things.Is this a technical answer?

What has been pointed out is that your test conditions were less than perfect and you really shouldn't assert that there is a difference.
Again, its a power cable into a turntable motor. this electrical system can only be coupled to the audio in two ways. Thru mecanical vibration or speed variations in the motor (rumble and wow & flutter respectively) Thats why turntable manufacturers dont give any elelctrical specs such as s/n. The second is electromagnetic, RFI or line induced hum.These cause noise. there is no way that the cord can affect the frequency response of the phono cartridge. And in well designed tone arms these electromagnetic effects are negligble unless its sitting too close to the power amp. Also any radiated effect will change with cartridge position and direction. The end of side 1 will sound different then the begining. Does this happen?

cbdb,you know what the problem is in this and previous discussions on cables?The "unbelievers"never question their hearing ability.And this is a very important issue.Can any one tell me if they accept the possibility that my hearing might be better than theirs,or,vice versa?
I have no problem in accepting your claim that your hearing may be better than mine. But, to be fair, we need to reverse the case. What happens if I claim my hearing is better than yours and I can't hear a difference? 😉

but we can not really be sure, unless this guess is verified in some acceptable way
but same thing goes for saying 100% sure that you hear a difference
unless this difference is so huge, that it is beyond reasonable doubt
you should be careful to tell you actually hear a difference
all our senses can fool us
especially at the limits of our senses capability
and when the details are so subtle, we hardly can notice them

you see a tree look like a dangerous person and you get afraid
