That's why o'scope probes come with probe hats. Clip on the probes, remove your shaking sweaty fingers, read scope.

The Pomona clippy leads work well also. Just keep in mind that many clip leads are only rated at 60 V or so. Some of mine are fraying where the wire connects to the clip. If one isn't careful, one can get chocked by those fraying ends...

Scope Measurement

I measured my regulator output on DC coupling and found no ripple. I had a voltage divider cause my scope can only handle 400 volts. That may have made the ripple less visible if not invisible. Once I get access to a better scope at school I will do an AC coupled measurement and see what happens. I will also replace the IRF820 with a FET with a lower Drain to Source impedance that can handle more current. I used the IRF820 because I had a few on hand.
