Perhaps a good point to note that unlike low energy non-ionizing photons at sub Teraherz frequencies UV photons at around the 1000THz mark do have enough energy to cause serious damage with buckets of evidence.

And yet not only do we need these damaging photons to help synthesize compounds but every time the sun shines people take their shirts off and purposefully give themselves large doses.

Funny old world 🙂

I had an MRI scan many years ago,

I don't think it had any issues..however I didn't like the Dye they use.

My Dad had one about 10 years ago and had a reaction to the dye..he had a rash all over his body...it dissipated after about 3 months.

So my thoughts are if you need one its better than being opened up to have a look. I must admit I didn't like it much but there is a lot worse you can have done.

Perhaps its worse to not have one and then find out you could have been treated for something that could save you. Think about brain scans much better to be able to see inside without invasive surgery.

Beep Beep Beep..GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR jack hammer by your ears..

A bit unnerving but nothing like the letter that drops through the door (the results)and you can't bring yourself to open it...my wife opened mine..all was OK thank God! All I could do was look at the envolope and shake..Stupid really but health issue that led up to it was real scary.. and not a permanent condition.

NB mine was a brain scan and it showed that I actually had a brain..😀

The bit I really didn't like was having my head bolted into position I panicked and tried to get up and my whole body lifted off the table and my head didn't move a mm..a bit claustrophobic..but there you go If you move you have to have it done again..so I froze and let them do whatever they wanted.

I don't know,

if its the dye that makes you feel strange for the rest of the day sort of dizzy and like motion sickness..it wasn't done with a syringe it was pumped in from a couple of what looked like pressure containers (like small oxygen bottles) seemed to take ages..Tic Tic sound..perhaps 30 seconds or so..

But its still not as bad as some things you can have.

I laughed and asked if I would glow in the dark..😀....It was my way of trying to laugh it off.

When I had a brain scan ten years ago, no one was surprised when the Radiologist noted that "there's nothing there". 😀

😀 Yes but what a relief..The specialist said to me well I can tell you, you also have no signs of CJD even if that wasn't what we are looking for..I never asked what he was looking for..I found out later it was a physical problem created by work related stress followed by migraine..
Symptoms were like heart attack and loss of use of parts of my body then crippling pain that put me on the floor and would happen about 8 times across 24 hours. I never laugh at people with stress conditions now..

I didn't realise or even know what CJD was at that time so I just smiled and said oh that's good then.😕

After a long time its all gone now..but it lasted for about 3 months. It scared the c**p out of me because your not in control of it. Just run for the pills in the middle of the night when you feel it coming on..If you didn't get them in your system before it happened you were curled up on the floor in agony with pains in my head and crushing chest pain. At one point they suggested a fast inject syringe .. it was like a living hell.

But don't you suddenly feel great when you go into casualty..😀 everyone looks much worse than you.

everyone looks much worse than you.

Depends on the hour you check in.
Traditionally, ER night-shift head nurses are the sporty type. Tennis, beach, exotic holiday locations. The giveaway is their suntanned head/skin 12 months a year.

Average radiation dose of a brain cat scan is 2mSv (millisievert)
For a male person over 45, that adds ~0.01% to the statistical chance of developing cancer over the remaining number of the average life expectancy.
A brain cat scan has a standard number of equally distanced slices.

The cat scan of my head this morning lasted a minute, only interested in my nasal cavity (total insanity does not require further optical verification)
Less slices, lesser dosage.

One of my g/f's collegues dropped dead on the pavement a number of years ago, while jogging.
A year ago, another one didn't make it out of the squash court alive, also a sudden cardiac arrest.
Both specialist doctors, with a SL of accumulated retirement contributions.

I don't get it, why so many people get concerned about MRIs and CTs. With everything we are exposed to daily these are such small adders....

I smoked for 30 years. I don't think an MRI is going to come near to causing the damage that did and that is still taking into account I quit years ago.

I do believe in getting of the working merry-go-round asap. But that doesnt necessarily mean stop creating nor working on what you like. But living to a really advanced age is another thing..... my mother died recently at age 94. If wasnt pretty and involved a lot from other older family members keeping her alive. Drop dead while doing what you like is a nice idea.

Newest MRI et al are very low risk and great diagnostic tools.
