MAG Innovision LT582s? FFC?

I ordered this monitor from Best Buy for $139 after $50 rebate but it's on backorder for several weeks so I want to go ahead and ask about this model so I can cancel my order and save myself some time if it's not worth trying to use for this application. It's pretty nice for the price with 1024x768@75hz, 400:1 contrast, .297 pitch, and 16ms response time, so I'd really like to use it if possible. I searched but it seems nobody has really tried it, which makes sense because without the rebate the popular Benq is just a little more money. Anyway, I have a new digicam so I'll take lots of pictures and let you guys know what I figure out

I'd stay far away from the mag LT582s, i'm reading a post on it right now in the lumenlab forums. It has serious FFC issues where a controller is stuck to the back of the lcd with two very short FFC's (an odd 9 pin and 23 pin). It doesn't look like it can be rectified.

There's also a mirror-like coating on the back of the LCD which is bad bad bad.

A few you may want to check out are: (in order of easiness)

Samsung 512n this looked ridiculously easy, nice & long "real" video cables.
The Benq's
CMV 529A
CMV 522a has FFC's but they are workable, can also be extended IF needed.

Hope this helps

Thank you for your response, that info will save me lots of time and heartbreak! 😉 I'll probably go for the Samsung since I like the sound of 'easy' and I've always been impressed with Samsung monitors. Where are most folks finding their monitors? I'm really hesitant to buy one online due to a really bad experience with a DOA CRT monitor years ago from buy.com. Is a used unit from eBay worth the gamble?

For a guy who's hesistant to buy online you're pretty courageous for buying something used on ebay 😉

That being said, i'd purchase it from "almost" anywhere that had a decent price on it, but thats just me and i've been extremely lucky with my hundreds of online tech purchases.

My advice is to be patient and begin looking now. Hit up every single possible store you can think of online. I'll name a few just in case you forget:
BestBuy, circuitcity, office depot, outpost, buy.com, amazon.com, staples, pricewatch, pricegrabber, ebay, hot deal websites, newegg, the sunday newspaper ads. Remember that some deals can be found in-store but not on their website.

good luck

Mag

Hi rth
I bought the same one as yours in Best Buys but had to return it the same day as it
had to many dead pixels.
That being said, it is a nice sharp panel and I wish I could have used it.
Maybe you'll get lucky and have no bad pixels.

I buy used stuff on eBay all the time, just not monitors 😀 These things aren't all that expensive to ship so I guess I'll snag one on eBay. The Best Buy order is cancelled, that thing was never gonna ship anyway. It looks like I can pick up a new one (all I see is new currently) for $190 shipped, which is not bad. Now I just gotta figure out what bulb/reflector combo to use and I'll order the rest of the parts
