Mag 15"

on reading most of the forums, I found old skoolers don't like newbies with questions that have been asked 5 times before. On reading all the forums, I found no "general" troubleshooting for most LCD monitor problems.

so:
Mag 15" (sorry, no exact model number - it's at the shop)
power will turn on, all functions will work properly, however, the display will only flash on for half a second, and then blank out. when shining a light on the panel, one can faintly see the image (therefore it is getting a signal), but it is as if the "brightness" is turned aaall the way down (which is not true).

anyone encounter this before? 😕

is there a certain area within the hardware I should be directing my attention to?

it's in the shop right now, but I'd like to save myself all the trouble by either A: fixing it myself, or B: at least knowing the problem so that I know if the technician is giving me the run around.

I bought it used, without warrentee. shoot me. it was $155 CAD tax in.

PS, anyone selling, or know where to get a cheap lens assembly? (don't say E-bay)

PSS, anyone know a mechanical way of correcting the natural "trapezoiding" when projecting on a surface not aligned with the projector? most LCD monitors do not have this setting built in. must one tilt the LCD according to the lens and light source, to make a non-distorted (non-trapazoidal) image on the screen?

yes, "trapazoidal" is now a word.😀

Hey man I think i can help you out<

first off i would like to say we pretty much only hate the newbs that are lazy @$$s and a half. particularly the ones which ask the laptop LCD question.

Moving on- it seems the backlight on your monitor has crapped out. you can try dissassembling it and fixing it urself or you might be able to find a new backlight. since you dont need a backlight for projection I would just turn it into an lcd projector, but its your choice.

Also, the trapezoidal effect is called "keystone" and the process of changing the bottom and top angles is called "keystone correction." Often, you can download video card drivers capable of fixing this- although it still wont be focused correctly. if the porjector is in a permanent place you can tilt the fresnal and when done correctly have proper focus.

Hope I was of help 🙂

wait wait wait!

sorry, you mean to say the fact that there IS an image (although extremely dark) is absolutely fine?

meaning, I can simply rip it apart :smash: , take off the backing, and just throw light through it (in the highly complex fashion described in the forums) and it will project that image?

oooooh that makes so much sense!!!!! meaning, the backing is only simply some sort of light emmiting 'whatever' that should be replaced by a full out projector light.

DONE!!😎

if this makes sense, please confirm.

otherwise, you guys just saved me X amount of dollars for a repair I don't even need. I'll keep you guys in touch with exactly the amount I would have had to pay.

LCDs only simply block existing light. I've always knew that. I didn't realize that there was a seperate light source built in.

the "keystoning" (which I remember it was reffered to that although forgot and used "trapazoidal" for lack of a better word) shouldn't be too much of a problem once I have all the components and I tinker with it. anyone tinkered with this before and have a simple solution?

Sim <--- (yes, now confirmed newbie)

PS, can I use a laptop LCD for a projector?

PSS, joooooooking... please do not reply to the above question. I did notice that question was a re-occuring theme....

PSSS, anyone have that lens assembly?
