The speakers I am making for InDIYana are tall and narrow and I wanted to enlarge their footprint and make them more stable.
I really like some of the speaker outriggers you can buy on the Interwebs, but the prices seem high. They can easily run $400.00 for a set, so I decided to make a set for my InDIYana build.
Drilling and machining aluminum is very easy with standard woodworking tools.
I started with four pieces of 2" wide x 3/8" thick x 11" aluminum flat stock.
Cut the angles with a 10 tpi carbon blade on the small bandsaw, clean up cuts and do some gentle easing of the square ends to roundish on the disk sander, drill on the drill press, clean up with wire wheel on one of the bench grinders, and tap some holes by hand.
No shots of the threaded inserts in the bottom of the speaker.
The feet have blue protective plastic on them in the pics. I also have a set of spikes that can go where the flat feet are.
Aluminum - Metal Supermarket - $18.00
Feet (M8) - Amazon - $10.00
Special large nuts (M8) - Still Chainsaw bar nuts - $6.00
Thumb screws (1/4-20) - Fastenal - $7.50
Threaded inserts (1/4-20) - Amazon - <$1.00
Total cost, about $42.00

That's some beautiful craftsmanship. I love the solid wood cabinets. Veneers just don't do it. Nice!
