I'm agonizing over a project for 12" Tad TM1201 😉
Not based off Romy's...
The five-way FLH system I heard was the one Jeffery Jackson had @ VSAC last year.

I spent the last few months agonizing, modeling, questioning, etc.
Am using a 15" 18Sound driver, horn is tuned to 65Hz, T=1.03 expansion, ~ 48 1/2" (~70Hz quarter wave) long.
Is 109 db +/- 1 dB from below 70 to 350 Hz, with the long, slow, smooth tail a mid-bass horn gives, that can be used instead of a low-pass filter.
Yes, I got a pair of Fane 8s, couldn't get them to keep up w/ the compression drivers, or go low enough to integrate well w/ the tapped horn subs I built (crossing them over w/ pllxo).
There is one of Romy`s premises which I find could be partly ideology: This true PCM thing for DACs and ADCs. If those who produce his CDs were half as purist as him...

I heard these a couple times, and was largely unimpressed. The integration was my main complaint.
It's always interesting how different people perceive things. I try never to judge negatively in show environs, or until I've heard a rig a few times.
On the case of Romy's rig, a good friend of mine with good ears spent some time with the kitty, and said the rig was amazing.
Here's an interesting article that answers the OP's question.
