Dear All,
I have a MacBook pro 13, that is supposed to have a spdif output 24/192. I connected to my Denon 3808, that is supposed to have a 24/192 input, but I only managed to play 44.1 khz tracks, or more precisely, the Denon is telling me that the input is 44.1 khz.
As I am not sure of anything in this game, my question is. How to know what is coming out of the MAC ? I was using Songbird to play 24/192 files for the test.
Thanks,
Davide

What device are you using to get the spdif output? Have you gone into the Audio MIDI setup utility and checked the settings?
If Songbird is using Quicktime, then you must set Quicktime to output 192K. That is how it works in iTunes. The output sample rate is determined by the setting in the Quicktime control panel. Additionally, I think the spdif in the mac may be only capable of 96K
I could not find in any application, in the preferences, a place where I could set the output. In dts or DD I got 96khz out, but in pcm always 44.1.
I am not sure if the problem is the mac or the receiver.
thanks,
Davide

Go to Finder>Applications>Utilities>Audio MIDI Setup. The issue of sample rate problems has come up when using a USB DAC (see Stereophile review of the Benchmark DAC). Correcting the settings in Audio MIDI setup fixed it. But I'm not familiar with spdif and whether it will apply here. But it's worth a try, anyway.
quicktime has nothing to do with it, audio-midi prefs is the only place you need to set it if using the onboard sound. the optical will only give you 24/96 though. a setting made in audiomidi panel will be reflected in all applications that use it, proprietary or not as long as they are written appropriately
