Machine pins without plastic spacer?

Does anyone know where to get just the round machined pins used in 2.54MM headers, or something similar? I need way too many to sit and break the plastic off by hand, but not enough for some min. 30,000 piece order from China.

Try digi-key under "Connectors, Interconnects" -> "Terminals - PC Pin Receptacles, Sockets" .

You will not like the price, you can probably buy an 8 pin socket for as much as a single loose pin.

But they are nice, you can use a bigger than normal hold and insert the pins right into the PCB, creating essentially a socket flush to the board.

Thanks, but I wasn't specific enough. I meant male header pins.

Looked through the "PC Pins" section and didn't see anything with the proper dimmensions. Like you said though, the price is a little bit much for a single pin.

EDIT: This one is perfect, if I can figure out how to press them in the PCB straight and without breaking them.....

Interesting data on those pins.

61.5% copper content and conductance drops to 26% ref copper.

3.1% lead content and they claim ROHS compliant.
Did they mean to say that the free machining requirement allows them to apply for an exemption?

So far I just ignore ROHS mostly due to the fact that I'm soldering with 63/37 Kester. What is the threshold on lead to be considered ROHS compliant?

RoHS = Restriction of Helpful Substances

Anyway....

3 to 4% lead is used to permit "free machining" and is permitted by EC Directive 2002/95Annex 6; so all pin materials
are RoHS compliant

Received my samples from Mill-Max today, they are absolutely perfect for my needs! I found a distributor that has them for only 4.7 CENTS each! Everyone else sells them for 50 cents each.

I built a jig out of a small c-clamp so I can press the pins in evenly without breaking them. Now I can make pro quality SOIC to DIP adapters for less than $1. Suck on that, BrownDog. 😛

Going to place an order for 2k pins on Monday.

Sure is, and a heck of a lot easier than soldering 8 individual pins.

Bad news though, the distributor that had them for 4.7 cents each only had 1k pieces at that price (I bought them all). They were leftovers from a 50k buy the company did. They said if I need more, they would be 42 cents each. No way. 🙁
