Thought I'd share a new set of fullranges I just received. They are the Lyeco 8" LY802F.

I'll be doing some open baffle experimenting with these. I'm going to build a middle section that will be sand filled and add wings and a few other ideas for experimentation.

Have you measured the T/S parameters of the drivers? I would be very interested in seeing the real T/S parameters of each driver and comparing them with the published specs. and with each other as a measure of the manufacturer's quality control. The drivers look interesting, and some of the other models look real interesting, but without independent data I would not be willing to take a chance on them.
I don't have the capabilities to do such things.
If anyone in Minnesota has let me know we could get together and try them out.

Popped these in a small vented cab for a little break in today, and these drivers are going to have some real potential IMO.
Great clarity, excellent midrange and super highs. Bass hard to tell in the small cabinet, but so far so good.

I dunno Bob. Normally I'd agree, expecially given the Qt, but Dave and I did a double BVR design for them, which according to MathCad at least, should work pretty well. Admittedly, it's not small though: 60in tall. And it assumes the factory specs., are correct, which is always a bit dodgy.

That was my first thought as well.

You can check out the various proposed designs here. It ran the gamut from a hole in a concrete sheet, to infinite baffle, to aperiodic, to Scott and Dave's double back loaded horn.
Does anyone have thoughts on the ball diffusor vs. a phase plug? And, what's with the 4 whizzers?

Gary where did you order these from and how much did they cost?

He won them in a recent competition on the Full Range Forum. Curse him. 😉
There were some cracking designs that emerged in this comp., and all are well worth exploring IMO. I thought all the entries were great, with some real creativity in each cabinet / panel.
Gary -how do you find the midrange on these beauties, especially for female vocal? As a big Loreena McKennitt fan, I'd be interested to hear your impression.
Scott
P.S.
FWIW, the double-horn cabinet Dave and I did is my favourite of all the BVR boxes that we've done so far, at least in terms of the modelled performance. I suppose it should be, given that I / we had the benefit of having designed the other three before it, so I was refining my approach (the CSS double BVR has also benefited from this). It'd benefit from some bracing in the chamber to reduce panel resonance, but should sound interesting!

And now Scott has put the Visaton B200 into a similar box as the Lyeco. The BVRs seem particularily versatile.

Haven't had a lot of time for these lately. Was told my job was being eliminated so I've had other pressing matters to attend.
I need to get these into a more stable baffle. Half inch ply is no good.
The mids are really very good and that's hooked up to a Yamaha receiver. I'm going to get them hooked to a old Sherwood tube amp tomorrow and give them a run.

What?!!! Er, yes, I can imagine that you have had more pressing matters Gary. Sorry to hear that & hope it gets sorted out.

Nelson, you are The Man. Many thanks for that. Seems to confirm that these units have pretty decent technical performance as well as getting some good subjective comments. How do they sound to you?

Discerning minds want to know. The drivers sure are pretty... Do i hear Loreena calling?

I reckon (assuming the drivers have the midrange performance I hear whispered they have) they should sound suitably impressive. Beats a normal small-vent reflex cabinet anyway.
I might try a proper long path horn for them -they should work OK. One of these days I'll get around to that 208ESigma cabinet too.

They do require some EQ, and the top end is not as extended
as say, Lowther DX55's. In the context of price, they are quite
decent, but as I said, I really haven't had time for more than
an initial impression.
I wonder if the driver will ever hit the US market. A few weeks ago I went to the US distributor's site and looked at what info they had available, hit the contact us button, asked a few general questions including price and delivery, sent the message, and never heard back. No response, not very reassuring to a potential customer. Evidently I am not the only one who has had this experience.
I suspect he's struggling to run distribution / sales as I recall from the FR it's only a hobby for him as such. As you say Martin, not exactly reassuring when you're looking at the thick end of $800 (which if memory serves is the price for a pair -don't quote me though).
Nelson -thanks for that.
