Hi Patrick,
LOVE IT!
I have always enjoyed my JBL Control25s and 28s, even bought a pair of control 1s to take away on holiday with me and driven with a Tripath amp + battery.
have LX521s as well, so can see what you are getting at here. The tweeter on the JBL Control is great for the cost - and its cheap if you blow it! although you got to be pretty unlucky with the protection circuit.
quick question.
what did you do for the upward firing woofer with this?
Brad
Thanks!

The wood box at the bottom is a front loaded horn with a SB Acoustics 5" woofer in there. Basically a 'snail' type of front loaded horn, similar to layout that Cerwin Vega uses for their 18" horns.
I wound up ditching this project by the way; I found that the imaging was a lot better using the setup that Linkwitz uses, with a single 3" woofer acting as a wideband "tweeter." I used a Fostex FF85WK instead of the SEAS woofer that Linkwitz uses.
Works really well. I think the Tymphany TC9 could work also. I've measured mine, and they're good to 16000hz. Alon Speakers is using them in their new speaker, as a "tweeter."
Cheers Patrick,
Im looking for something to build with my Daughter and wanted to do a compact decent sounding system. will probably use MiniDSP and go 2 way.
do you have any details of the front loaded horn that you put together?
I have some gold edition Fostex FE103 sol that I may use for the top drivers. also have 4 x Peerless 830500s from my old Linkwitz Thors, but they are 12 inch drivers!
I have used some FE103s to build large Cornu spirals that sounded good and also built some Cheap Trick back loaded horns with them for a friend that sounded great as well.

I also had before narrow baffle, 2-way monitors B&W DM302s perform really well in the same space where I now have LXMinis. and this made me wonder if B&Ws would do well if mounted above a large driver, an 8 to-12incher which could perform high enough to maybe pick up some of the lower mid duties. I have some good drivers and if I can bring myself later in the summer to get some sonotube, maybe I will dust those B&Ws off and try it as an experiment 🙄. there should be an opportunity to improve on LXMinis at lower listening levels as well as with more complex musical program where LXMinis start to fall behind.

just for the record: I added a sub to LXMinis below 60Hz and it integrated really really well with the space; one cannot tell where the bass is coming from and the speakers just sound waay bigger (I suspect it helps that the space has irregular shape and is pretty open);
I must say that the transformation has been amazing!! now LXMinis are capable of playing all music and they have become addictive.
