Good luck...with Mike😉

I had a talk with Mike but did not raise this topic.
I won't say he takes recommendations "like God takes advice", he was perfectly civil.
But it did not seem appropriate, he has very definite opinions.
He has earned his entitlement to them, unfortunately they are not what would suit our interest in linear amplifiers.
Instead they heavily emphasise techniques that work well for switch mode power supply ICs that are LT's speciality.
I was a bit unprepared for a discussion in that context and missed some opportunities, my mistake.
Still a worthwhile seminar and I recommend it if you can make it when he visits Europe.

Best wishes
David

Dear David,

thanks for update. I'm not surprised that LT has not really a big interest in diyaudio needs for the future. As it is closed source where development is driven by a big company it's only a factor of time when this nice piece of software isn't available to the diy community. This is one of the reasons why I switched over to open source simulation software - where ngspice is the core which fulfills my/our needs. Everybody can contribute to the code and help becoming the simulator engine to be the better alternative for diy.

The development speed of the new sa2019 project was exceptionally high using ngspice's scripting engine with a minimum of mouse clicks.

BR, Toni

P.S.: in 2015 I have had a short discussion with Mike via email where I wanted a quick button to toggle a text block from "comment" to "active" to faster switch from e.g "tran fourier analyze" to "ac" simulation. The final resulting answer was:
"Control right click, you get a dialog where you have radio buttons to change from comment(blue text) to SPICE directive(black text)"

=> no change to toggle without any mouse click. 😱
=> not even tried to discuss scripting in detail ...
