the purpose of the circuit example is just to show how to step the two halves of a PP transformer primary, that is, giving the two elements the same name.
The circuit is just a Magnavox style PP, the different caps are neccesary to alleviate (to a certain extent) differences in the frequency response between the two fases, in this type of phase inverter. You can see the same trick in the original Mag schematics .
