Hi,
if you go for deforming the record then I expect the underside to form a curve.
I think you should try to measure that curve and then replicate a reverse version into your platter surface.
The last thing you want is a disc supported at some parts between the periphery and centre and then resonating at the unsupported areas in between.
Vertical resonance will be a left right difference signal.

"The Top of the Poppers Sing and Play the Carpenters' Greatest Hits" has been sacrificed to science. This may, in a small way, have increased the cultural quotient of the UK...
The thinnest part of the LP was 0.931mm thick at a radius of 146mm, the thickest 1.450mm at 52mm radius; this corresponds to an angle of 0.158 degrees. (Just as well it was measured, rather than relying on my memory!)
The centre label was 2.190mm thick

Its a good day indeed when both science & culture gets advanced from the same action.
Those are some pretty small numbers, I have a feeling that the unit to unit variance would be be pretty high percentage wise.
After thinking on it for awhile, I've deciced to go the reflex clamp route.
Thank you for your effort sir. Though I suspect cutting through that tripe was reward enough.

EC8010,
Grand research, but I'm curious whether anything was said as you handed over your chosen record to the sales assistant...
In my mind is an image of a middle aged educated female charity shop assistant, who now thinks she has you sussed

Worryingly, nothing was said as I handed over said LP together with Val Doonican and Tijuana Brass LPs in order that I could cut up a couple more (at 10p a throw, I could afford to be extravagant). I suspect I may have destroyed the credibility of my musical taste. I will cut up the other two LPs tomorrow and see how the numbers compare...
