My turntable is a Micro-Seiki BL-51 with a Grace 707 II tonearm and a Signet TK7e cartridge.

I have the Signet TK7Ea, essentially the same cartridge in a different body. Signet or any Audio-Technica MM cartridge is notorious for being extremely sensitive to input capacitance, especially with 12AX7 type phono due to Miller effect. Make sure your tonearm cables are the low capacitance type. I made the mistake of not taking that into account and the sound became shrill and bright.....and I blamed it on the phone preamp! Oops!

I've been running EH7025 tubes in these clones and they sound nice. If it's still too bright, the NOS RCA 7025 in the first position is a little mellower.

As others stated, make sure your TT cables are low capacitance and match the cart.

This phonostage is sounding better tonight with a smoother and more balanced sound.

Only time will how much better it may get.
