I'm looking at either Pansonic FC low impedance series which I know is popular and the United Chemicon LXZ very low impedance series.
Are there options as which may be better?

Depending on the voltage rating and capacitance values you need you may want to have a look at Panasonic FM and UC KZE as well.
What is your application?
In many applications, the golden path to low ESR is parallelling caps...

Linear or switcher?
In smoothing cap apps, it is often a toss up between ESR and ESL as the culprits.
In either case. Long tall skinny caps, as opposed to short squatty ones, are generally lower in both.
In linear apps... paralleling a ceramic or film cap can be far more practical than finding the ideal lytic...
