Well, if we get have it right that Lars wants a cheap, simple ready-made preamp, then there should be lots to have, e.g. the Denon Per-Anders suggested woudln't be bad. And the old NAD preamps (NAD1000, I believe) should be easy to lay hands on as well. If it has to be new, the only really modest-priced one available in DK is the Cambridge A-300 for around 230$ (unless, of course, you are willing to live with electronic input selection). There's also the AMC 1100 for around 260$ - don't know anything about it.
Otherwise, we're talking around 600$ for the Rotel RC 03 (which isn't supposed to be brilliant) or the Vincent SA-03 for 630$ (which looks nice, but I don't know anything about it).

"He will, Oscar, he will......"
You did not specify what it is full of. I'm sure that many here have an idea what it might be, and that it is unpleasant.
Same thought probably applies to me.
"It will James.....it will........."
I was waiting for you to weigh in on this subject. I thought this was Do It Yourself Audio, not rec.audio.opinion.buy.it.cheap.
Still find it hard to believe that someone, who knows how to build stuff(!), would have to ask the working classes where to buy something that they should have no trouble making themselves. And a "cheap" one to boot.

troll
troll v.,n. 1. [From the Usenet group alt.folklore.urban] To utter a posting on Usenet designed to attract predictable responses or flames; or, the post itself. Derives from the phrase "trolling for newbies" which in turn comes from mainstream "trolling", a style of fishing in which one trails bait through a likely spot hoping for a bite. The well-constructed troll is a post that induces lots of newbies and flamers to make themselves look even more clueless than they already do, while subtly conveying to the more savvy and experienced that it is in fact a deliberate troll. If you don't fall for the joke, you get to be in on it. See also YHBT. 2. An individual who chronically trolls in sense 1; regularly posts specious arguments, flames or personal attacks to a newsgroup, discussion list, or in email for no other purpose than to annoy someone or disrupt a discussion. Trolls are recognizable by the fact that the have no real interest in learning about the topic at hand - they simply want to utter flame bait. Like the ugly creatures they are named after, they exhibit no redeeming characteristics, and as such, they are recognized as a lower form of life on the net, as in, "Oh, ignore him, he's just a troll." 3. [Berkeley] Computer lab monitor. A popular campus job for CS students. Duties include helping newbies and ensuring that lab policies are followed. Probably so-called because it involves lurking in dark cavelike corners.
Some people claim that the troll (sense 1) is properly a narrower category than flame bait, that a troll is categorized by containing some assertion that is wrong but not overtly controversial. See also Troll-O-Meter.
The use of `troll' in either sense is a live metaphor that readily produces elaborations and combining forms. For example, one not infrequently sees the warning "Do not feed the troll" as part of a followup to troll postings

Now, now, that sure does sound familiar, I think we have quite a few of those in here, two of which have been rather active in this thread. Not to mention names though... I'm sure that those who are not trolls will know who I mean.
Those who are, obviously can't see it themselves...
Get a TANDBERG Huldra 10, change the emitterresistors on the power amplifier to 50 Ohms, reduce the quiesent current to about 5mA and solder a pair of good cables directly to the output end of the output-capasitors within the radio.
Splended preamp, superb radio... All in one, and should not cost you more than a couple of houndred dollars.
