Hi,
forgive me if my question is old, but I was not able find an answer in the forum.
I succesfully built a gainclone with fun. I am tempted to make a more ambitious project with one of the first watt clones and finally reach the audio nirvana and stop thinking about a better home music experience (I know is impossible).
But what are the loudspeakers, possibly to build myself, to properly couple with the amp? I was interested in some of the open baffle projects of MJKing but they do not look very efficient and I am afraid they need more power.
Please can you address me to a proper older thread or give hints based on your experience?
Renato

I am currently using my big Alpair 12pWeN/A7.3eN with my SIT-3 and it works very well. Bridged ACA have too high an impedance, a single stereo one works well, parallel pr likely even better.
A full set of plans with passive XO are available.

Anybody else not able to view the first two links? I get the following message:
"Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms.".
I thought maybe it was something with my cookies that was causing a problem, but I deleted them and still no success. Also tried different browsers with no success.
Regards,
Steve

I clicked on them earlier today and there were a lot of results, but now I get
the same message as you did.

search-es tend to go Dodo after some time
both were Advanced Search
first one "speakers first watt"
second one "speakers pass labs"
both - search titles only , just in PL forum
anyway, to save you of agony - best speakers for both FW and PL amps are :
-RCA LC1
-15" DC Tannoy (any of them, I'm not picky)
everything else is for Sissies

(which means - feel free to send all your baaaad speakers to OPLDF)

Only based on my experience, which has been limited to a few speakers, I would suggest either a) single large full range driver from Audio Nirvana (Super 12” or Super 15” ferrite), or b) for a more modest unit the Alpair 10 in a bass reflex box. Neither option is technically difficult to build but they differ quite a lot in size. If size is not an issue, the Audio Nirvana has beaten all else I’ve heard in terms of full range drivers but of their range of drivers I recommend only these two. I’ve got the 15”, but the 12” is the next closest in terms of key characteristics.
If I were wanting to try a multi-driver speaker I might begin with a Devore Orangutan clone, a two way with a large bass unit that appears well within my capabilities. After that, I'd be keen to step up to The Loudspeaker by Troels Graveson which is without a doubt, a very major undertaking.

My opinion: if you speakers work with the gain clone they will work with most of the first watt amps with the exception of the amp camp and early “F” amps.
It really depends on the kind of music you listen to and how loud you listen.
I use a 87db 3 way and it’s great.

I was very satisfied of my gainclone lm3875 50watt but when I put as speakers jimmy griffin jordan + aurum cantus ribbon minimonitor that I built, I noted lack of power in the bass so now I am back as amp to an yba integré I bought many years ago. As I wrote still thinking about the "definitive" gear.
Thank you to all your suggestions, looking through themit is my week end job

I had the same issue. But in the third link there are plenty of information

You can check " Amplifiers Comparison Chart " on FIRST WATT PRODUCTS
For example F6 amp with 4ohm load give 50Watt's of output power and 25 Watt's with 8 Ohm's load.

I'm a bigger fan of operating at 4 ohm lower rails versus 8 ohm with higher voltage rails. At some point I may do a transplant of my amplifier with a f6 or similar. Just wondering the results and differences.

Oh, oh. I had to look those two up ... looks like I might be in the sissy category. 😱
while making some tidy in my main puter these days, I found folder of pics
these are spks certainly working good with Papamps, of which I have pictures and first hand experience

I think you will get fine results with many different speakers, depends on you listening habits. I use Altec Lansing A5s with my First Watt amps with great results. BBC LS3/5As and clones are also great, at least with the F6/B1 Korg combination in moderate to smaller rooms. My Carlsson OA51 LE2 are also reasonably good match as long as one does not venture into headbanging territory as they are not that effective.

The cabinets covered in the matching wainscoat wallpaper? Cake taken. (Hope it solved someone's WAF!)
