Hey all, Just joined the forum as i'm looking at making some custom stuff for a project including a DAC,
I'm going to rebuild my car electronics and looking at putting a PC with a proper DAC in it.
The main issue is, my car (Saab 9-5) is more towards pro audio so i'm looking for a quad channel DAC that has balanced outputs.
Does anyone know of a project i can use for a base or got some tips on starting my own project?

DACs take some time to learn how to do well. No Bob Cordell nor Doug Self books on this. There is RF, there is analog, there is digital, etc. Question might be, do you mostly want something quick, easy, and or to save some money, or do you really want to get into making good diy DACs? If quick, easy and low-cost is the main goal, probably better off to go buy a 4-channel Focusrite Scarlett or whatever you want and can afford (okay if its in a car, you might have to design a power supply for it). OTOH, if you have the diy DAC bug, we are here to help and advise. Happy to do whatever we can 🙂
Assuming you do want to diy, first thing to understand is that a proper DAC doesn't belong in a PC. Very much the wrong environment. Sometimes we have to go to great lengths to disentangle DACs from PC EMI/RFI noise problems.
