Hi guys i really want to build an preamp to use with my 2 chanels setup, i want to someone please point me to some good design. iwas reading abt lightspeed design. which you recommends me?
Have you narrowed your search down at all? Tube/solid state? Do you need high gain or not that much? What kind of things have you heard before that you've liked? Most of all, what can you afford?
Sorry to answer your question with questions, but I've been traveling this road the past couple months, so I know how bewildering the choices can be if you don't focus 🙂

If you need active (gain) get a $30 Grado clone headamp off e-bay and plop in a National 4562. ( board, Alps pot, good caps for $30) If you need some switches, use the trick VTL does and double up the poles. Put it in a nice case, hard-wire the leads to the inside eliminating RCA connectors. Many really good power supply designs, but rechargeable batteries are even better.
I know, I can hear the uproar. Don't bother. I am talking sound quality, not magic. The sophistication of a modern OP-Amp is fantastic. You need to do the implementation just as well. I have also gotten interested in adding some Jensen transformers to the output. More as filters than anything.

well guys, i never heard any other pre 🙂
i just connected the amp to the PC, and used an Yamaha Receiver. thats all.
Think that tube will be a little hard, or is is simple will be great to build an Tube PRE. if not an solid will be ok too.
I dont need high gain, i just want to control it.

Something like this: Foreplay III Line Stage Kit would be pretty easy to build if you take your time, and practice your soldering a little before 🙂
John Broskie's kits (GlassWare Audio Design Software) are also an excellent choice, but those aren't as complete as the Bottlehead stuff...you have to work out an enclosure, connectors, volume control, etc.
