I am currently building a hifi audio setup (Pi 3 and HiFiBerry Amp+ on order) and am confused about what speakers (would prefer small bookshelf)...I don't want to blow my new Pi amp.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Specs are 25watts/channel and 4-8 ohms.

Not a whole lot of real specs for the amp… up to 25 w. That will be with the maximum power supply voltage, and for both channels driven and added together, likely into 4 ohms, with no distortion figure for the cutoff.
So likely, this an estimate based on above, i'd call this 4-6 W into 8 ohms.
Are the speakers going to be used near-field?
I'm a big fan of full-range (ie single driver) loudspeakers. Lots of designs for small bookshelves.

Full specs are here....I understand now that these are not "big sound" so will be used only in small room.

I would also be willing to make it full DIY project so wouldn't mind making my own speakers - could you suggest some designs for small bookshelves (avail here in Canada).

I have a line on some used JVCs or various Sonys from around 50$...for DIY I would go 150$ish (I can make enclosures from specs...have tools).. Considering the whole Pi will cost around 100$, doesn't make much sense to go much higher.
Thanks Dave.
Thanks Dave.
Hi ramrod60. Glad you could both make it out to the Ottawa meet yesterday.
I was talking to you about some of Dave's (planet10) designs. Check out the Fostex F85wk plan here:

Do note that that document is but a teaser for the 32 page (and growing) miniOnken planset document for the FF85wk.

Thanks bearberry.....already started the research based on the tips (BTW thanks for above links) you gave me....yes, the F85WKs look interesting and probably more suitable for the little Pi and my level of knowledge. Thanks for the opportunity to demo those speakers (Dave's design?) we tried at the meeting.....sounded great!!
