I’ve read online that it’s possible to make a high pass filter (80 hz, 6 db per) similar to the Vandersteen X-2, but perhaps using a higher grade of capacitor than is offered in the stock X-2. Unfortunately I have no confidence in my ability to pull such a thing off, so was hoping some talented DIY'er might be willing to build a set for me. If you’re willing and able, I’d really appreciate hearing from you!
Thanks,
Scott

The x2 used the relcap polyprpylenes I think, that are
decent for the price.
I used the red trt dynamicaps E versions when I built my HP5's crossovers that are a very transparent inline cap that aren't too expensive. These are an upgrade from the original Infinicaps that ended production I was told.
You might search Audiogon As these come up often enough and modify from there..

Thanks for the recommendations, AVWERK. unfortunately i do not have the ability to make or mod these filters so was hoping to purchase a set from someone that did.
if you make these - HP5 or X-2 - to sell, i'd certinaly be interested in discussing further.

Did you call meniscus audio in michigan or madisound? They build crossovers? I can build crossovers just don't know how vendersteen has it set up without looking at it or having a pair. Good luck jdm
hi jdm - i have not called meniscus or madisound, but that’s a great suggestion.
from other threads i've found, i think the X-2 is simply a capacitor wired in series between an RCA male and RCA female connector. here's one comment i came across...
"As close as I can come is to put the cap in series with the + or signal portion of the RCA and run a bare wire on the - or ground (direct ground to ground connection). I like to use teflon to insulate the ground wire."

since my amp’s input impedance is 10k and the desired frequency is 80 hz, I think a 0.2 uf cap would get the job done??
