Looking for med-high eff 10" driver

I just bought a SWR Goliath Jr III cab and x-over. The box is about 2000 cu-in with a slot port across the bottom. Any suggestions for a decent, but not too expensive, 10" bass guitar driver for this box? I'll be driving them with a 100 watt tube head so I don't need super high power handling.

p.s. I forgot to mention that I want to end up with 8 ohms so would need 4 or 16 ohm drivers

I posted this over to the music forum but they don't get a lot of traffic there. I'd like to go from lowE to about 4K.

low E is 31hz right? I forget....

Anyway the LF response of the system will be dictated by not only the driver but the enclosure itself(volume and tuning).

Voice coil inductace will be an issue for the extension up high. Also with a 10" driver there will be some beaming up higher. I dont know if thats an issue for you or not.

Define not so expensive.... I have $1200 in my sub and planning to invest more

Thanks for the help. I'm pretty sure lowE is 41hz but I may be forgeting also. My idea of inexpensive would be about $30/each and I only need to handle about 50 watts each. Eminence Legends sell for about $75/each and I know they sound nice. Remember that bass guitar speakers don't have to be very accurate. Some guys want it that way but most will sacrifice it for volume. Any decent, paper coned, cloth surround 10" driver would probably do. Just for fun I tried a couple of RS cheapies last night and they were not that bad. Not much punch but not bad. I'd leave them in but they don't fit the box right and I don't want to cut the opening for these junkers. I paid $75 for the cab and I'll get twice that for the one good woofer and the horn tweeter. So, If I could get a couple of drivers for $75 the total cost would end up being $0. I looked at a 10" driver by H2O yesterday at a car audio place and it looked good but he only had one.

thos are all pretty low efficiency drivers, look at the eminence ones at partsexpress.

If you wanted you could even do one of the coaxial eminence drivers.

i wouldnt reccomend anything from car audio, theyre menat to get low in small boxes, meaning low efficiency.

Yes, you will want high efficiency, moderate xmax, and probably a little more power handling than what your amp will put out. Of course low inductance will also help the HF response.

a very low xmax(linear excursion) PA style driver with high Xmech(mechanical excursion) will probably suit best. The amount of output at the fundemental is often very low and even if it werent going beyond xmax wouldnt be a problem unless you went beyond Xmech which is usually a difficult feat. The distortion caused by it might be a pleasing to you anyhow

MCM has some woofers that might be worth looking at. I cant give links because I'm looking these up in their cataloge, but you can find them on their website by seaching the part numbers...

I think only the last one had an advertised HF response up to 5k. the others were 3k I believe

SWR uses custom Eminence drivers and a horn driver from Fostex. Since you're not planning on using a tweeter, if you like a mellower vintage sound (which it sounds like you do) and don't do any slap and pop, I agree with Simon5 that the Eminence Beta10 is one of the best options. Instead of the Beta10B (16 ohm version) go with the standard Beta10 (8 ohm). Alternately, for more extended top end, you may want to consider the Legend B102 which has a whizzer cone.
