My friend, Osawa-san makes tonearms and cartridges.

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

I am trying to find "Headshell Socket", connector that hold headshell. Today, he disassemble used/old/junk tonearm and reuse headshell socket.

Does anyone know where to buy them? I do not want to pay plus $100 for SME replacement.

Thank you!
Kenji

Mark Kelly,

I talked to Osawa-san regarding bearing. He was looking into them for long time, but cannot get away from 5 points contacts in the bearing (5 balls).

He also tried floating type (magnet, air, etc). If there is no contact, initial attack on sound is slower.

Best,
Kenji

One place to try

Only since you asked -- I'm not trying to advertise here. I buy my exotic and unusual audio components from KAB ELECTRO ACOUSTICS and I see that they sell about three vendors' tonearms, but no headshell sockets. Nevertheless, these meet your price target and you can jerk one out of the tonearm. Otherwise, just visit yard sales and thrift shops for old turntables.

Thanks for that. The multicontact pivot bearing is exactly what I want, I strongly dislike unipivots. I am after 6mm OD and 9mm OD; NSK Micro in Japan makes them (BCF9 and BCF6 respectively) but they won't reply to my emails.

I agree with Osawa-san about non-contact bearing problems, IMO these are caused by standing waves.
