The positive flare of a Voigt pipe increase the frequency of the quarter wave resonance (compared to a straight pipe) it also broaden the response. Constricting the opening will reduce the frequency increase in the resonance. However, there is a sweet spot for constriction a too small opening will lower the efficiency of the pipe.A rough guide would be an opening with an area of 50-100% of the driver area.
And yes the opening is at the top. If one prefer a conventional top an opening at that back shold work equally well.

Hi, I’m the guy in Europe, the Netherlands, that has build the Solstice for the Alpair 12 and later a new set for the 12P and they both sound awesome. Listening to them as we speak.
Of course they are pretty tall so the WAF can be an issue but that is soon gone after they see an hear them, they are very elegant from the side!
Cheers, Ingmar

Scott & i have been talking (& very slowly) working on an update to the short-lived Solstice series.

Solstice pictures
Sure I can upload some pictures!
The plywood version was my first Solstice build using the wonderful Alpair 12.
After the release of the even better Alpair 12P I decided to rebuild them for those and sold them to a good friend. Both sets had a door in the back so I could adjust the long hair sheep’s wool damping. When satisfied with the damping I covered the plywood with a 3 mm layer of MDF and had they spray painted in a matching color to the cones color. This color is great, I tones well with the wall behind.
As I use them also for surround purposes too I designed a lookalike Alpair 7.3 rear speaker and a twin Alpair 7.3 center speaker. They all sound amazing but the true winners are of of course the Solstices by Dr. Scott Lindgren!
We are enjoying them every day, big, awesome sounding and beautiful!
Cheers Ingmar

Complete new series not an issue in design terms; if you want them Dave, I have the baseline alignments worked out so can forward faster than a stabbed rat.

Let me look to see what we have already. I expect A10.3/p might be on that list.

We at least have A10.3/p, twin A10.3/p, A11ms, CHN110 (free design) —(might need some tweaking.
We need A7.3, A7ms, A12p, A12pw, P7HD. A12p & A7,3 might be in emails.
