hi I'm looking for a MN2488-OPY-MK transistor as the one in my sony str-dn1030 has let out the magic smoke with a bit of a bang this all happened right as the 8 amp fuse blew

So you've checked and measured the resistors and transistor junctions associated with the defective transistor and they are good?
Rare that that would happen, particularly if the fuse blows.
Those receivers are notorious for failures of the HDMI chinese boards.
I've seen a lot of that happen.

Sanken MN2488 pnp darlington way work. the driver circuit may be fried as well.
put a diode on the HDMI board power supply to reduce it by 0.7v . it may last alot longer at a lower voltage. I reduced the (unobtainiam) SX3700 display chips supply voltage by 0.7v and they work normally.

thing is i rather keep it all ome parts as i was gifted this from someone who passed away a few years ago
And the thing is.......... sometimes OEM parts are simply not available.
That's why suitable replacments are out there.
