Looking for a replacement for my TA2020 based amp

Hi all,

It's time for my second DIY audio adventure.

At the moment I am using an SMSL AMP-03 which is based on the TA2020.

It is fed by a Moodlab Concept DAC with a passive I/V output stage and powers relatively inefficient 3" full range speakers (Tabaq design with W3-871 drivers).

This combination works well at moderate volumes which I listen to for 99% of the time but when I crank it a little further, the sound gets a little dry and fatiguing. I would like a little more headroom and if the sound could be a little warmer then that would be a bonus.

Another reason I am looking for a replacement is that I feel like building something. I guess the satisfaction of listening to music through my home made speakers makes me wanting more of that.

As I am quite a novice when it comes to electronics, I am not looking into amps that require modding or soldering on PCB's.

After quite a lot of reading on several boards, I guess it will be based one of these chips but I am open to suggestions:

TK2050: seems like a safe choice as I already like the sound signature of the TA2020.

TPA3116: I have spent two evenings reading through the TPA3116 thread and it left me with a headache.

TPA3110: The Sure boards seem to be unanimously praised but will it give me more clean power than my current amp?

Any input is welcome!

The power supply I use for the TA2020 is a 12V 5A.

I have 2 red TPA3116 boards from Yuan Jing on the way. One for myself and one for the friendly neighbour who helped me building my Tabaq speakers.

I know the blue board is only a tad more expensive and considered to be superior but due to the plug and play factor (with integrated volume pot and additional RCA cable) I just could not resist it for the price. Seems like a sensible start.
