I'm looking for a decent 3 way bench top design I can build for my garage bench. budget is around $500.
I've been quite happy with the HIVI (swans) DIY 3.1 speaker kit. But I thought I would try something a step up from there. Any ideas guys???

The Statement Monitor from Kurt Campbell/Jim Holtz at Speaker Design Works would be a step up but may slightly over budget (plans suggest $700 for parts for two speakers plus cabinet). You can design for far or near to wall or with a switch for both.

What kind of frequency response, sensitivity and SPL are you aiming for? How big is the garage and what type of amp are you planning to use? What is your music preference?

I can't seem to find any tang band drivers in stock. The new Neodymium ones are all OOS. And the replacement looks to be a ferrite, Any ideas?

If you can't find a 3-way kit with the budget, check out XRK 10f/rss8 or what was it wideband assisted woofer speaker. You'll find the thread in the fullrange forum.
Should be affordable, and sound good. It is a two way, but in my opinion the WAW design has more 3-way speaker qualities than those off traditional 2-way with a tweeter. Should have solid midrange, good bass. Main trade-off is bit narrower highs. Bonus is that it is a lot cheaper than a 3-way. If you absolutely want a tweeter, its not going to cost too much add it later, altough some crossover work required, or just slap on with a cap and pad since it is garage 🙂

These were nice. Unfortunately they're no longer available. You could get used ones for as low as half the price.

Thanks for the great responses guys. Seems those selas tribute are the closest to my budget. Ill have to narrow it down to those, and the travelers or even the philharmonic bmr.
It seems like Meniscus is completely sold out of most of their kits lol.
Any other sites or ideas out there???
