Hi Mandy, glad to see you're here.
Maybe it's about time you can share your DIY turntable and tonearms 😉
...and the Ebody DL-103 😉

I did get the video, but have no idea how to post it here. I would be glad to send it via e-mail to a more astute member to post.😕
Audio Technica made a device like this. Sometimes it pops up on ebay, even NOS, but it seems quite a popular item so it does not come cheap.
Here is the Video of the Tonal made by a friend.
I hope this works.

the video of your lift looks great! ok, it's obvious that your lifter has a lot of fans here, including myself...so i might as just flat-out ask: would you consider making up a few and letting the folk here at the forum order them from you?
i know i can say for myself that i've been looking for years for something that works, and yours seems to be the first one that doesn't send the arm off into the stratasphere.

Thanks Barry for your interest and kind words. Yes indeed, I think producing a batch of TonaLs for audiophiles outside the Philippines would be a great opportunity for me to demonstrate a sample of our capability. I am very happy with this gadget's performance!
I do have a couple of small problems in the way, i.e. lack of materials and difficulty of hand machining the parts.
You can bet I am hot on overcoming them very quickly! I will let you guys know as soon as possible when that happens.

I bought a Expresimo Lift a few years ago before they stopped producing them
It works about 99% of the time on my rega 2

sounds great, mandym! i can't wait...heck, i'd send you a deposit right now if it would help.
so, any idea on the timeframe? is it a case of "maybe soon" or is it "some time between now and when hell freezes over?! 🙂)

HAHAH, Barry your enthusiasm is contagious! You just gave me a kick to get off my rear end and start on the project. I have set myself a time frame of weeks (not 52!), more like 8 to 10 weeks.
The cost will be in the range of the Expressimo, but (as shown in the Video) will perform much better than most, if not all lifters. The TonaL also has an automatic reset, no need to reset manually after each operation.
I am now in the process of putting one together from spare parts left in my bin for a fellow member here at diyAudio. Once I get it finished and shipped, maybe he can comment on it.

I want one too
Mandym; my question is if you haev a carbon fiber tonearm the magnetic pick-up will still work? need to put a magnet up on top of the tonearm right?
will that affect weight of the tracking or can be easlily countered by the weight?
I am slo waiting for the lift so .. count me in maybe we can ship together and save soem money form shipping form Philipines, Shipping in the US is very cheap and reliable.
Perhaps we can ship a couple dozen or more dpeend on cost and how many people really inetrested.
Please keep me posted, I also have a a few guys that could use this thing, Great going!!!! Keep up the good work.
God Bless;
Gonzalo

glad you liked my kick in the butt; we here at the diyaudio forum specialise in butt-kicking and are happy to offer only the best guilt-inducing whinning around...
and in regards to that other forum member who's lucky enough to be getting your newest beta lift, i say to him: you don't reeeeally want it, do you? to say that i'm envious is puting it mildly. and say, how do we know that you're on santa's audio "nice" list?
hey M, i say we have you send me the lift instead and i'll distract him by waving my arm in the direction of the horizon line, saying: "look! it's elvis!!! we'll just tell him that his got delayed in customs and send him off a lump of resistors.
the beauty of my plan is that he'll never know. oh wait-he reads this forum too, doesn't he? drat!
boy, i sure hope he has a good sense of humour...!

Hi Gonzalo,
The magnet is mounted on the head of the TonaL. A piece of metal is attached to the top of the tonearm by means of a double-sided adhesive foam. On my arm, I measured the effect of the metal on the VTF in the order of a tenth of a gram, easily compensated for through a slight adjustment of the counterweight.
Barry, it's OK. I am making good progress on parts. It shouldn't take 2 months to finish a batch of maybe 10 units. Keep a good supply of four-leaf clovers!

Just an update on the Tonal progress.
There is only one part to go! The-hang up is that I am having a hard time finding the material. It is simply a length of black plastic rod, 1/2 in. in diameter! You wouldn't believe how difficult it is to find stuff here in the Philippines
. I might have to use Ebony (lucky you, no extra charge) or aluminum.
At any rate it shouldn't be too long now! I am making a batch of 10 Tonals.
Finally, I do not know how we are going to do the transaction. Gonzalo has an excellent idea. I suggest we communicate by email about details, orders and suggestions.

This is the latest version of the Tonal:
I will have the first batch of 5 done in a few days. I am still trying to figure the best way to send them over because shipping is just too expensive. I would appreciate some help, please email me at:

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

looks great!
i would imagine that the regular post office wouldn't charge more than about $20 for a small box, airmail...
let me know how much your shipping quotes are and we here can pick the most practical one.
and don't forget, anybody who orders something shipped from the philipines has to expect higher shipping costs in any rate.
let me know,

Barry, I have also emailed Mandy and it looks like shipment would be $40 - a pretty hefty chunk. If you're interested in a group buy, we could combine shipping. Getting one from the UK to RoI should only be a couple o' quid. Let me know if you're interested.
hiy'a there 'skinty-
sounds like you might have something there with a group shipping. i'm in-let me know what you come with...
o.t., i note that i've emailed M a few times but get no replies; does he not write often or are my letters going straight to his spam folder?
on the other hand, if he reads this, then he'll know to look around for them...!
