Long speaker cables

In this case I have found very interesting demo video by "you tube" and townshendaudio regarded checking speaker cable with an amplifier, 2 KHz sine wave and two channel scope:

(scoll down)

Is this a realistic way to find out the best cable type, especially for long distances ??

The understanding of spoken English is difficult for me, but for me it seems to be a mistake, to use a coiled cable reel instead of a uncoiled version, as shown by the ordinary (basic) type of cable.

Are long speaker cables (25ft) a bad idea? Is the inductance large enough to cause treble roll-off or stability problems?

Hmm, only acceptable if you`re running single ended tubes onsupersensitive horns, if anything else you`ll loose a lot of dynamics.

With SS-amps serial resistance are the worst enemy, be in speakercables or passive filters. Wery underrated & misunderstood by most designers & other "experts"

As long as the cables are sized properly, what's the problem?

No.

Speakers are a very complex load.

Realistic squarewave response comes from transmission line type wire sourced and loaded by pure resistances with no reactive or +j factors in there.

Better speaker cables are those without few thousand pF of capacitance between the conductors on long runs, which almost entirely rules out "audiophile" cables.

And IMO, 25' is not a long run. I've ran LONG runs in stage gear. 25' is insignificant.

Cheers!

One also needs to take into consideration the power loss in cables.

Thank you for this informations.

THAT is now the funniest thing I've seen online today. Townshend needs better anti-virus software!

You are right. For me the question is, why I don't see this only here, but not on Townshead's hompage.
Is it generally better to maim the URL ??
like the follow example:
"www_townshendaudio_net/index.php"
then such funny things can't happen

By the way - happy new year

I found this link interesting and use braided CAT 5e for my hidden (ceiling and walls) wire runs.

DIY audio cables

If you use the 6 wires braided as suggested, it is equivalent to about 10 AWG wire for cross-sectional area and have resistance of 0.008 Ohms per meter. For 10 meters of wire the added resistance is 0.157 ohms. No idea about capacitance or inductance.
