Happy new year diyaudio!
We have a new USB DAC available that's based off a 32-bit processor from Microchip. To read all the details about it, check out logicform.net, particularly the blog section for technical details and performance measurements.
The Logicform NV1 USB Preamplifier's 32-bit processor provides the bridge between the USB host and the physical DAC and can stream up to 24-bit 96kHz audio in asynchronous mode to feed a PCM1796 DAC and some LME49723 opamps.
True asynchronous operation with independent low-jitter oscillators, and careful design, layout, and firmware development resulted in excellent performarnce for the NV1 Preamplifier.
For a limited, diyaudio.com members get an additional 15% off the NV1 using promotional code "DIYAUDIO15". This promotional code is valid as long as you see this code. And lastly, it's free shipping if you're within USA and $20 for shipments outside of USA.
Edit 1: The RCA line-outs are line level and can be plugged into any preamp, receiver, or headphone/power amplifier that accepts RCA inputs or 3.5mm in (RCA to 3.5mm adapter required).
Front & Rear of the NV1 Preamp + Noise Measurements
Typical THD Performance @ -3 dBFS

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

Common questions
Thank you guys for your interest in the NV1 DAC / Preamp.
Here are the answers to some common questions that we've gotten about the product.
Does this plug directly into my speaker/stereo system/preamp/amplifier?
The NV1 DAC has line level outputs of 2.2V max and is designed to plug directly into any receiver, amplifier, or sound system that can accept analog RCA in. If your amp or stereo does not have RCA inputs but has 3.5mm or XLR inputs, you can use an RCA to 3.5mm or XLR adapter.
Will this work with my operating system?
This unit is plug and play for Windows, Macs (desktop and notebooks) running OS X, mobile devices including iPhones and iPads although a separate camera to USB adapter and a powered hub is required as the mobile devices does not supply enough current to power the NV1 directly.
What kind of volume control does the NV1 have?
The volume control on the device utilizes the hardware volume control available on the physical DAC chip. Adjusting the volume either by the rotary knob or by the OS's volume control will cause the physical DAC chip to adjust its volume and report back the change to the OS.
Also, don't forget that we are offering a full 30 day trial / return policy and a two-year warranty on this product. So far no one has taken us up on that offer and returned the NV1. 🙂
