i have been tryig to contorl the volume of the sub woofer by adding a log pot just before the sub .. first i used a 10 k it dint work then i went on for a 47 k... but gives me a very very limited range...the sub woofer sounds only when i have turned the pot fully... and as i turn it by say 1mm ... the sub woofer goes dead....rater than a volume control it acts like a switch ... with hardly any range

You can't use an ordinary pot on the output of a power amp. You really need to control the level at the preamp or crossover stage.
