Hey,
Total newbie...big surprise😉,
Working on an ancient Sylvania AA5 tube radio. I damaged a socket(very brittle). It's an 8 pin loctal socket for a 50A5 tube.
Having a hard time finding a replacement socket without paying $30 for shipping. I'm wondering if there is an equivalent tube that would fit a regular 8 pin octal socket.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Betula

Thanks for the ebay link...however I'm in Canada and that price with shipping would be over $35Can. The radio isn't worth it.
I have lots of used regular octal sockets that would fit the existing hole so using an equivalent would make the most sense. I may actually have a 50L6 kicking around if that's actually a valid equivalent tube.
Also, I appreciate the quick responses.

Pin out is different, so he‘s got to change the socket out anyway. Octal socket $3 (and on hand), loctal $35 delivered. No brainer here.
And 50L6’s are cheap for the time being ($8). Usually when I run into them they’re being used in a hot chassis design, and switch them over to 6W6 or 12W6 - to run it off an Antek 05T120. Those are three bucks (And $30 for the transformer to not get the **** shocked out of me or the owner).

Yes, my 50L6 fits a regular octal socket nicely.
Also yes, the pinout is different. I have to wire it differently....what could go wrong🤣.

Sounds like you haven't done this before, so please read this carefully.

Yes, Norm Abrams. Love that guy.
I haven't done this before (rewiring a tube socket) but I have built 3 guitar amps from kits and one from scratch.
I know just enough to not kill myself.
