There are many switches on the Denon Amplify.
The problem as I see it is that the Denon is not simply an 'Amplifier', but is an 'AV Surround Receiver'.
I've never used one of those devices and consulting the manual I'm mesmerised by all those switches and settings!
Looking at the 'Playing the input source' section of the manual I come up with this:
- Set the input source to CD using the function control on the main unit.
- Press the ANALOG button. This ensures that the analog signal going from your PC output into the CD input is decoded by the receiver and played. Alternatively, selecting AUTO on the input source function control should make sure an analog source is detected and decoded automatically.
Hi Galu,The problem as I see it is that the Denon is not simply an 'Amplifier', but is an 'AV Surround Receiver'.
Yes, It is quite complicate in operation.
Now I got my problem fixed.
Connectin - CD In ports
Setting - Direct CD (please see attached photo)
The sound is excellent, no difference to my Onkyo CD Player which is not working now.. I re-connect my subwoofer and the bass is also execellent.
Any further advice from you ? Thanks
Regards
Hi Galu and all,
I have digitized all my music CDs, about 500 CDs, to digital files in .wav format and stored them on a 4TB hard drive, solely for data storage, without OS running. The drive is on ext-4 format. The digital files are stored on folders specially created, retaining the name of musical piece as their folder names. Besides I have created a txt file consisting all their details, such as the full name of the music piece, the composer, the pianist or violinist, director of the orchestra etc. It would ease me making search.
Besides I have created 7 folders on the working drive of the PC. I name them as "Monday_Folder, Tuesday_Folder, Wednesday_Folder etc. I copy the musical pieces, which I like to hear, as symbolic links on each folder from the storage drive. To play them I just run following command on Terminal of Ubuntu 24.04 Linux PC;
$ vlc /path/to/Monday_Folder/*
vlc is the name of a media player.
VLC media player
https://www.videolan.org/
I have it installed on Ubuntu 24.04 desktop Linux. I trust other media players would also work as well. Also I believe that this setup will work on Windows as well.
The music files on each folder will be played automatically for a full day, without the need of changing CD. It is very convenient.
However eventually I would purchase a CD Player for my HiFi system. But there is no urgency.
Remark:
The benefit of digitizing music CD to digital files has dual functions.
1) Should a CD damaged I can burn a new CD on their digital files
2) I can play the digital music files directly on PC without a CD player.
I'm considering starting another adventure, if time allowed. The new adventure will be connecting the PC to Denon AVR via WiFi. Get an old mobile phone connected to Denon AVR (I have old Samsung Galax S22 Ultra mobile phone in good working condition). The mobile phone will send musical signal, received from PC, direct to Denon AVR. How to connect Galaxy S22 to Denon AVR? Galaxy S22 only has an USB port but Denon AVR doesn't have USB port. Alternatively I have an old Galaxy S9 phone, having an earphone port which I can connect to Denon AVR, but Galaxy S9 phone is too old.
I suppose this will be an interesting topic. Should it work I don't need purchasing a new CD Player.
Regards

Good luck in your new adventure.
I'm content with my turntable and CD player.
I did digitise a large part of my CD collection in .wav format to hard drive, but found that to be a soulless way of listening to music.
But just ignore me as I'm probably more than twice your age and tragically set in my antediluvian ways!

YES > wav. files do use a lot of disc space.I have digitized all my music CDs, about 500 CDs, to digital files in .wav format and stored them on a 4TB hard drive, solely for data storage
Is your 4TB hard drive mechanical or Solid-State? If it's mechanical, you stand the chance of future failure 😕

No, mechanical hard drive is not so bad. I have WD mechical hard drives running for >20 years. They are still working without problem. Of course their storage capacity is smaller because they are drives of 20 years ago.
