Not very! It's very much alike the old NE5532. LM833 is not bad but there are many, many chips which are better in every respect.

State budget and purpose, I'm sure we can help you in choosing a suitable opamp.
It is very close to NE5532 in performance.
Douglas Self has tested this one too.
This is what he says, for what it is worth:
The LM833 is a dual amplifier by National, designed "with particular emphasis on performance in audio systems" it says in the datasheet.
The bipolar input stage gives low voltage noise, though not quite as good as the 5532. The load-driving capability is not so good, a 1K load causing significant distortion.

--------------------------------------------------------

Although its performance is similar to 5532,
it is different in the internal design.

It uses PNP input pair - 5532 uses NPN
this means that the bias current runs other way in the resistors
at input - can change the offset in some cases.

It uses NPN+PNP in output, while 5532 uses only NPN

There are other differences too.
But peranders is right in performance is like NE5532
LM833 belongs to same "old generation" of OP-amps.

LM833...

Hey, it's al alright op-amp. Not great.

I've been using them for a while. Not too please with recient testing. I'm seeing significant distortion at 10Khz at a 10K load!

Not sure what is better. If you find something that is better, post it to the group... ...I'd like to try some new op-amps too.
