I thought a couple years ago after TI purchased National Semi, they discontinued the much loved LM4562. The SOP8 package disappeared very quickly while the DIP8 was still available for a little while.
However I just now realised it is back in active production. When did this happen? Am I the only one who didn't know?!

I kind of assumed it had become the OPA1662 given very similar specs.

Depends on when you last looked, but a few years ago TI discontinued a large chunk of their audio-related ICs only to change their mind and bring some of them back shortly afterwards. No idea why, but I don't think anyone should complain 😉
LME49710 and LME49740 were axed during the chipocalypse, but I don't think LM4562 / LME49720 ever went anywhere. I presume there is plenty of stock of DIP packages because most everyone producing in quantity would be using SO packages these days and DIP is most common in small-scale / enthusiast circles.

Really they are two very different opamps. LM4562 as output stage have common collector stage while OPA1662 have common emitter stage with local feedback and feedforward correction.
Inside closed-loop circumstances they can provide similar properties, but they achieved with different approaches.
Yeah, I don't remember seeing the LM4562 going away. What I have noticed is its
price now is significantly lower than when it was first available. No complaint from
me here. 🙂

I sold circuits with the LM4562 soic8. It was most definitely discontinued by TI for some time and Farnell and RS sold out, but maintaind some DIP8 variants.
The OPA1612 was much more expensive while the OPA1662 was slightly higher noise. Anyway I'm glad to see it back! It might well have been back for 3+ years, lol!
Now I'm having trouble getting LME49724 and the OPA1632 is far more unstable in to various loads 🙁

Don't think the LM4562 ever went away. It was Nat Semi so they may have been hiccups due to the acquisition by TI. I've certainly got some DIP8 and SOIC8 versions kicking around bought in the last few years.
I thought it was strange that I bought some lm4562 so8 from mouser this year and they had the national semi logo on them
