Does anyone know if the Lm3886 is essentially powered down with the mute pin is drawing zero current? Or does it just stop the output (while still having a high idle current)?
If one wanted to put the LM3886 into power saving mode, does using the mute pin work, or would you basically have to cut the power rails with a relay, for example?

From the data sheet it looks like the mute pin just turns off the input and therfore the output.
The idle or quiescent current will likely stay the same at 50-85 mA as specified.
