Linux Mint 17.2

My wife and daughters are all running Mint 17 with the Mate desktop (err, one daughter might be running Cinnamon) . They all love it and my annual support hours are virtually zero! Now I just need to convince my father to abandon Windows and I will regain my sanity. 😀

I still have an old version of Ubuntu (12.04?) on my main workstation, running Gnome desktop (HATE "Unity"!). Been too lazy to upgrade it, and ....it's Linux, so it just works.

My NAS is Debian with OpenMediaVault installed. My music server is Mint 17. My web/mail/etc. server is FreeBSD 9.3.

Hi Mike
I am using Cinnamon, also like Xfce which I use on a
small laptop.

Thanks Chris, I just finished downloading that one. I haven't played with Linux for a few years, I hope this one is more user friendly than the last one I tried. I'm really fed up with windoze, I'm exceptionally unimpressed with win10, it's just more of the same old Micro$oft bloatware. :xeye: Thanks.

Hi Mike
The install process is on most machines about 15 minutes.
If you want to use other risky operating systems - not that you should have to
there is nice software called virtual box where if you have original
discs you can run it, .

For us Electronics people there is some software to help
in Linux like oregano, but things like LT spice can run
in Wine available free in software manager.
it is just a matter of turning off the other for good
because it is not needed as I found out in 2003.

Glad you are enjoying, its so nice to use.

Cheers / Chris

Installed it (easily) on an old machine a few weeks ago, but still use XP because I haven't found software to run my TV stick (haven't looked, really)....
If I could find that, & a prog that would download the photos from my Nikon, XP would get the boot
