Linn 5150 upgrade?

Hey all. I'm interested in adding more power/spl to my 5150s. They mesh perfectly with my Acoustats. Very fast, flat to 15hz but I have to have the dsp on soft clip to prevent them from farting when the going gets tough. So in you guys' opinion, could I just put a more powerful amp in them or would I need to also use more capable drivers? Speakers always take quite a bit more power than they're rated at, hence my query. TIA

There is a shorting connector from filter out to power amp in, so could I just couple a different amp to the filter output? There's nothing in the manual.

"Farting" could be describing the sound of the speakers reaching Xlim at low frequencies just above or below Fb (box tuning) or amp clipping, or a combination of both.

The Linn's 200 watt amp is probably a close match to the 5 ohm speaker's capability.

The "soft clip" is probably reducing peaks by 6 dB or so. If so, power would need to be increased to around 800 watts to avoid clipping, would likely require drivers with both more excursion and power handling capability, which may require different DSP.

Might as well just use the soft clip or add another sub for when the going gets tough.

Right, didn't realize that. Linn is not getting back to me about this question🙂
Not sure about going ahead since it's a negative impedance amp, responsible for all that awesome damping I'm enjoying. I would upgrade both the speakers and amp if I could keep the sq and just up the output.
