Does anyone have a good copy/electronic copy of manual for the Ling TP850 amplifier?
This is a BTL 850 watt shaker table amp designed to work into about 1.7 ohms. I have 7 of them. 2 work. I am happy with those, but they need a couple of mods because the protection sytem for these shakers is different than for audio. Each one weighs about 175 LBs. The output power is measured with an air-cooled shunt and an RF ammeter. In fact I bought them at first thinking they were RF power amps, greedily thinking how many watts 25A would be at 50 ohms. An impossible figure for something that size. These will make good subwoofer amps. A spec sheet says the amp goes down to 5 Hz.
The main protection is a giant size SCR crowbar directly across the +/-30VDC power. This pops the main breaker. It's intended to protect the shaker table driver coils. It pops when:
1. amp is turned on with gain control not at zero
2. there is any sort of clipping at all
3. there is output overcurrent no matter how slight
4. you look at the amp crosseyed and the moon is full on a Tuesday.
There is no load (speaker) relay or internal current limiting/foldback, etc. The frequency response is limited to about 5KHz. I am not sure I need to mess with the response for subwoofer use.
So, some little work needs to be done to domesticate these big beasts. Any help for the schematic appreciated.

A person off list who knows me is sending me a copy. I will eventually post the schematic and any mods to my site and announce here later.
