Most of ESP's article is about getting equal voltages for the two out of phase signals. This is basically differential signalling.
This has NOTHING to do with balanced impedance connections.
Balanced impedance connections are there to help attenuate interference. And that does not require equal value differential voltages.

AndrewT states the key point. Differential signaling is a thing apart from balanced signal interfacing. The task of adapting a single-ended output circuit to a balanced interconnection is quite simple. Jensen Transformer app. note AN003 details how, see top of page 3 therein.
