Greetings
So I wanted to try something new and looked at Steinway and Wisdom Audio.
Lovely Line Arrays, but out of my budget!🙁
I can manage around 7' tall arrays.
Budget is around 1000 dollars/speaker. Cheaper preferred but can go up if there's a real gain to it.
I've been looking at several ribbons, AMT etc and 5-7" woofers... a lot to chose from.
Can anyone point me towards some good designs?
PS: Did search the forum, but only found quite old posts about Line Arrays.
Cheers! 🙂

Dash8, there are many recent threads about LAs using small full range drivers with DSP correction to yield excellent measured results. This trend might be suppressing interest in 2 way LA, for the moment. The FR LA threads are inspiring and full of valuable technical insights and LA theory, so you might find them useful, even toward your 2 way project.

I understand the desire for true tweeters for accurate tone. I'm building LAs with FR drivers now and I'm concerned how the FR treble will compare to tweeter. A friend with experience building LAs says I won't like FR LA. I have rarely liked whizzer cone treble on previous FR drivers I've tried. With all the enthusiasm in the threads above, I want to hear it for myself.
Good luck!
Rich

There are even more threads on line arrays within the last year here. With just three types of ingredients, those are good wide-range drivers, filters of first order and symmetrical D'Appolito-like arrangement pretty perfect column loudspeakers can become built. It is less of a technical problem but rather a matter of overcoming one's own mind set by hi-order filters and insymmetrical arrangements.
yup.
you may want to ask over on the multi-way forum, since you want a 2-way array.
Even I am contemplating a line array with 4 x 12" full range drivers.

This one might be more up your alley:

There are more, way more if you look hard enough 🙂.

Since this is a FullRange Forum forget two way and silly Xovers, it will just eat your money and transform the beautiful harmonics from the music in heat.Greetings

I suggest you use a quality full range driver as Alpair10 or 12 no more than 6 or 8 drivers per box(BassReflex) to easy the drivers connections (series/parallel) if you manage find a quality 4 ohms or under FR driver it could be great.
Good luck

on the topic of driver impedance what would you gentleman think of ten of these in parallel with a few resistors thrown in for volume shading?

This speaker is intended for battery radios or electric door intercom not for hi-fi.on the topic of driver impedance what would you gentleman think of ten of these in parallel with a few resistors thrown in for volume shading?

Very cheap.
Unfortunately no, the efficiency is too low at these hi resistance values.do you know of any hi fi drivers that have that sort of impedance?
For this I prefer a sole Alnico driver, even in parallel connect various drivers add some musical degradation, so far I happy w/a sole FR.
In the pre WW2 these hi R drivers were some what common use usually Alnico magnets w/small tube amps.
