Not really sure what the rush is to make them...everybody's leaving Ames now that classes are over *so parties would be marginal at best) , but w/e. If I can get them to help I'll coat the cones with laquer, thats just a helluva lot of drivers to do by myself. 3-4 coats should be enough right? Nice looking cabinets thylantyr! I'm curious though, how are you going to hide the not-so-pretty frames on the NSB's?
I like the multiple column idea, I bought ~200 NSB's to do
some future experiments. But in reality if you design it well,
do some ferrofluid mods keeping the dust cap on, the power
handling is much higher and I can cause 'pain' with just one
NSB on the test bench. The trick is to inject the fluid, perhaps
a syringe poked into the center of the dust cap leaving only
a tiny hole. Pre-measure about 10 drops {eye dropper drops, lol}
then inject. You can do more than 10 drops if you leave the dust
cap on. I filled the gap on one experiment and it was awesome,
the problem was I had no dust cap because I removed it to do
phase plug experiments. In the garage while woodworking, the
dust found it's way into the speaker and mixed with the fluid and
became sludge. not good.
I really doubt that you even need the fluid mod, I think if you
wire the array for low impedance, get a good amp {proamp, hehe}, you can generate some good spl to punish people. With
lacquer mod, it sounds even better, more smooth and less irritating. You can actually enjoy the sound.
You can use 8 NSB above and another 8 below the horn
and that is fine. Try 10 above, 10 below. hehe Doesn't buy
you much though but it will look taller.
The NSB frames will be sanded to clean the rough edges
and to scratch the metal for black paint to stick. From distance,
the black on black {baffle} will hide them. Not to mention
that 99.99% of the time the grill covers will be on../hehe
Buy some extra NSB, do some tests using cheap particle board.
Try OB, try ported, then plug the port with a piece of wood
to hear what sealed sounds like. I did a 5 NSB test box to
get familiar with the drivers. This simple test will really reveal
to you what you need to know.
