Hi all, first post here on diyAudio. I just bought a Lightware VP800+ and when I got it home, I found out that it uses a non-standard VGA connector input! I contacted PLUS (who now owns Lightware) and they do have the adapter for sale (https://store.buyplusdirect.com/buycategory.asp?categoryid=39) but they want $19 dollars for it plus $6 shipping ... $25 is way too much money for me right now.
Any chance somebody here on the forums has this projector (or a similar one) that uses this cable? If so, is it possible that somebody could give me a quick pinout on the cable? Or maybe somebody knows where to find this information already? I've already got the connectors and plenty of cable, seems like a much cheaper solution for me.
Thanks!

VGA might be solved... now I've got missing lense problem
Thanks, cool find.
I found the pinout for the standard 15pin VGA that I'll need (http://pinouts.ru/Video/VGA15_pinout.shtml), but I have no clue what the large 15pin connector is on the back of the projector. My friend seems to think it might be a Mac VGA port: http://pinouts.ru/Video/maclcvideo_pinout.shtml
If it is a Mac VGA port, might this work? http://www.pccables.com/70023.htm
Anybody know?
Also, one more question to throw out there. Looking at other picture of the projector, it seems mine is missing a piece.
Here's a picture of where the bulb sits in my projector:
Here are two pictures of the same projector with the missing lense circled:
Anyone know what that piece does? Do I need it? Can I make one? 🙄
Thanks for the help everyone!

Re: VGA might be solved... now I've got missing lense problem
That is the optical eye ,I think it's called an "Iris" it looks like a crystal ball that was cut in half ,and without that piece the projector won't project an image.
I had one of those vp projectors and they have a good image but run very hot and use evd bulbs that last about 50-70 hours.,you can get them at this link.

Re: Re: VGA might be solved... now I've got missing lense problem
Thanks for the clue on what it looks like. But as you can see in the picture below, the projector works just fine without it. It produces a clean even light... so I'm still curious what it does. My theory is it might protect the bulb from debris? As the fan air blows steadily through that hole.
I finally sat down with the pinout from pinouts.ru (http://pinouts.ru/VideoCables/vga2macintosh_pinout.shtml) and built the cable. It works perfectly!! I chopped the VGA cord of an old monitor and I got the DB15 from an old PC joystick. I posted a couple pictures below of the cable. I can't believe the image difference compared to RCA (haven't tried svideo yet).
The projector is a little too noisy I think (anyone else have this problem with these projectors?) I think the fan that is causing the noise is the squirrel cage blower at the bottom of the unit (see picture below). I'm not sure I'll be able to hunt down a new one like this, so i might need to rebuild it, find a suitable replacement, or, like I've seen some others do, build a hush box for the projector.

Bulbs
Oh, and thanks for the link to the EVD bulbs. I actually ended up buying them from www.NorthernLightFX.com for only 2.99 each! (low shipping cost too, got 4 bulbs for $17 shipped, roughly 4 dollars per bulb.)
Here's the link to the bulb: http://www.northernlightfx.com/cart/product.php?productid=953&cat=0&page=1

I used to but them by the dozen since they don't last very long, there are also EVD/LL bulbs that last 300 hours and cost 8-9 bucks each .

Wow, cool. I also see they sell EVD/XL which are rated for 300 hours. However, it looks like as you move away from the standard EVD bulb to the LL and then to the XL, the lumens go down slightly (from 16000/14500 all the way down to 12200 with the XL). Will I notice the difference? Six times the bulb life for a little over three times the cost is a pretty good deal.
Lost remote... no problem!
My projector also didn't come with the remote, but I was able to track down the hex codes for it here: http://www.remotecentral.com/cgi-bin/codes/proxima/lb-30/
Combined with NoviiRemote ( http://www.novii.tv/pocketpc/deluxe/ for my PocketPC, I now have a fully functional remote control for my projector!

How much would you sell the condesner lens for?

As a matter of fact I always used the EVD/LL bulbs and the image looked the same to me ,so go ahead and order some and you will see how much longer they last.
I also found out that the iris improves the image and color in the image that is projected.

$25 + $15 shipping
Thanks for the offer, but I only paid $10 for the projector, and it seems to work fine without the condenser, so I'll have to pass.
