Last week a lightning bolt hit a pole in front of our house. It blew up cable modem, router, computer and USB interface that was connected to the PC.
The analog part of the interface still works fine but the USB function does not and won't even show up when connected. Is there anything I should look for when I open it up? Maybe try reset in some way?
On the PC it was the motherboard that got fried, CPU is ok, so I still hope maybe the mixer can be resurrected since rest of it works. Thanks for any advice.

look for a big hole in one of the chips 🙂
The USB chip is most likely an SMD one. You may be lucky and only that USB interface chip has been fried. You may be unlucky and find that the DAC chip or other processing chips have also been fried.
I blew the DAC chip on my focusrite 2i2. probing with my scope I was able to see that all of the analog stuff was working properly, the USB chip was fine. removing the original dac chip and replacing with one that focusrite very kindly sent me for free, fixed my 2i2.
My fault wasn't lightning induced, but phantom power related.
So possibly may be an easy fix (provided you have the equipment available for desoldering and soldering smd chips. Very hard to tell what the extent of the damage might be though.
Tony.

This is why whenever I suspect a nasty storm is coming, (which thankfully has been rare) I go around the house and unplug my precious stuff.
One never knows!

Thanks. From what you describe there is nothing in front of the digital components that would blow first which would be an easy fix. So probably the smd chip is gone, I can't replace those with my ordinary solder gun, I wouldn't even see the tiny connectors. I guess I'll have to replace the whole interface and be done with it.
