I found this auction on ebay. and was wondering if its an adequate lighting rig for a DIY projection system.

goodmart.com sells that ballast & capacitor for $81.83, so a $50 Buy It Now price is great. ( They also sell lamps for that for $23.75.)
The cons:
The lamps seem to all be 4000 K color temp, which is a bit yellow for projection.
The lamps are all enormous, so you will need a big mixing bowl reflector & a big box to house your projector.
1000 Watts is a lot of power for a DIY projector. Most builders don't go above 400 Watts. You would need to pay special attention to cooling, and be prepared to pay some hefty electric bills.

A mighty bright image, even if you make it super-sized.
