In the attached photo, is "A" supposed to be connected to "B"? If so, what is the purpose of the round area between them?

Hello Bayou- best way to answer your question is to look at the schematic. If they are connected on the schematic, there are several ways to fix the problem. Some people will use small eyelets, bend the lead of the new component over, etc. Others will put hours of work repairing or have a new pcb manufactured. It depends on if you want your gear to survive space flight or not.

If they're not connected you can solder the new component and move on.
