Yeah, I do like that satin black. Wonder if it's tough enough to paint my houseparty speakers with?

Its fairly durable but I tested the underside and it still shows the knocks. Nothing like as delicate as the lacquer used on the main cabinet parts though.

The plinths seem to take all the knocks what with hovering etc. I foolishly did the Perceives with a gloss plinth and they showed every little scuff and mark. So that was something I was trying to avoid this time.

I think if your wanting something that's near invincible then the epoxy or polyurethane enamels are where its at. These are the coatings they use on industrial machinery and tools. They're impractical for you and me though because they require baking to dry rather than the usual air dry.

Hi Shin:

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

I did these up with spray epoxy- appliance stuff. Took forever and a lot of cans, but it is, as you say, near invincible.

Not speaker related but its nearly as good.

Had the Golf in over at JBS Auto Design(VW tuning shop) for the last couple of days whilst they fitted it with NOS and a few other bits.

My god is this stuff fun, literally laughed all day whilst fooling around. Its currently running at ~75bhp boost when engaged with upto 130bhp injectors but the engine won't handle that sort of stress, not without a rebuild every few months. To safely handle that sort stress you'd have to look at some moderate uprating. At the moment the engine is just running light mods - racing cam, stage 3 remap, induction kit, de-cat and stainless exhaust.

A Dyno run, with the NOS, revealed peak power of 254bhp at 5700rpm. Its a blast to drive, flick the switch on the dash twice to prime and then plant your foot to engage and watch as it just takes off. I just hope I never grow old. 🙂

😎

Never, EVER do that!

I have some friends that have gone that route, and with the exception of frequent (only weekly) but unspectacular (XXX), and occasional joy at watching their offspring grow (something you can get vicariously as an uncle without the multitude of problems 😉 ), their life has become utterly routine and often a disappointment.

(..its kind'a sad actually, I've become something of a therapist for them on the occasional weekend when we get together.)

Note that I also have several friends that have NOT gone this route (and with the exception of legit s.t.d. paranoia), have a blast. Typically a different girlfriend every 3-4 months with a month "off" between them. Vacations when and where they want. Hobbies that can be WELL "expressed". Etc.. -And another sobering fact: the few female friends, (not "girlfriends"), I have have ALL gone the early family route (and rarely make the time to maintain contact with friends that aren't seen every day).

This isn't to say at some point you shouldn't entertain the notion of "family" life - but rather that it should be put off FAR longer than normal for starting it, (prob. 20 years beyond the "norm"), AND it should be planned for financially so that you can actually enjoy it (i.e. NOT "grow old").

..and to integrate with the forum's purpose:

..consider how many married adults here have the financial freedom to do what you are doing - both in DIY audio and other fun hobbies like cars? (btw, look into semi pro "go cart" racing - provided you have tracks near you.. 4 inches off of the ground at 80 miles an hour is a BLAST and is the nearest financially capable means of experiencing formula 1 racing.)

Well, enough of the "reality" check.😉
