I have a Hypex UCD180HG DIY amp, while a friend has an ICEPower based amp. The ICEPower is pretty good, but the Hypex sounds better to both of us - specially more depth and grip at the low end.

thanks for the input and the link , what about ST series ? HGs r double of the STs price ...

Hi all,
sorry I am late with my reply.
What chris66 said about the Behringer B2030A is absolutely true. Except for looking ugly they are technically a copy of the previous generation Genelec. My statement is based on the local AudioVideo-magazine.
Excellent value for money, I say.

yup , if i wanted to buy a monitor that would be a good choice for that price 😉

They look really nice.
I also have a magazine from 1 year ago with (various type and price) monitors review.
All it needs is for IP to just mention the type, Coax/2/3way+sub or not/active vs. passive and the price range so we can compare with it's DIY project objectives.

room adjustments

WOW!, you got that right. Room adjustments are often overlooked in lieu of different amps and speakers.
I had an experience with a local church that had a ringing problem and called in a high priced audio analyst to solve the problem. They neither wanted to spend the money for the analyst nor had the funds available.
I am not a professional by any means but I was asked to look the thing over at the Pastor's request. I noticed that if I stood in the center of the room(a sanctuary in this case) I clearly heard an echo developing when the voice was used.
I first checked the mixing panel and found the equalizer was not engaged. I energized the equalizer function and equalized a bit and that dropped the ringing a little. Then I laid some blankets on the rear wall to absorb. That did the trick. I told the Pastor to line the rear wall with sound absorbent. They used some heavy murals along the back wall that were laying in a closet. He later told me that the murals were there when the current church moved into the building several years ago, and were removed at some parishioners request. They were of a spiritual nature and were not disrespectful.
Thanks;

Paul

Yup exactly Paul . I saw people buy Dynaudio and still didn't know how they should place their monitors and sit in their sweet spot , people that put their equipment in one corner of the room and they were complaining that why it sounds unbalance and so on ... I honestly can say 50 percent of people I saw (audiophile or mixing guys) didn't have a clue about proper room adjustment ,
Anyway , I did my research about that before I came to look at monitors 😉

Ahmad,
No experience with the UCD180ST, so cannot comment. With 2 modules you end up paying around Eur 90.00 more for HG vs ST.

1/2" cabinet wall thickness sounds thin; I prefer 18mm or 15mm.

I focus on active xo with dsp , so at least I need 4 amps and 6 for 3way , and that would be a huge difference for me 😀

Similar to what I had in mind in my post preceding.
I'd still prefer those 5" Beymas though. Distortion and Xmax are very similar but the Beymas are cheaper, available in Europe, have a 20Hz lower Fs and 7dB more efficiency.
All translates into more headroom which is IMO very important in the studio.
If and when you drop a plugged in mic it's the difference between hearing a loud pop and digging the voice coils out of the opposing wall.

Joking aside a friend of mine once used some Linn speakers in his studio for half a day. He meant to be using them for 3 days until he got his Dynaudio monitors back but the Linns expired in a puff of smoke around lunchtime.

mmm 🙄
